SSDI Disability Appeal Kit

Denied for disability? The appeal is where people win.

Most first claims are turned down. The kit walks you through every level of appeal, generates your appeal request from your answers, and counts the 65 days you have to file, on any device.

How the appeal works

Four chances, not one.

A denial is not the final word. Social Security gives you four levels of appeal, and each one is a fresh look at your case. The kit prepares the right request for whichever level you are on.

1

Reconsideration

SSA-561

Someone who was not part of the first decision reviews your full file again. The kit generates this request from your answers.

2

Hearing before a judge

HA-501

You appear before an administrative law judge who looks at everything fresh, in person or by video, instead of a paper review.

The largest share of approvals happen at this level
3

Appeals Council review

HA-520

If the hearing did not go your way, the council checks the judge's decision for legal or procedural mistakes.

4

Federal court

The final step. A judge outside Social Security reviews your case. The kit helps you keep your paperwork in order long before you ever get here.

65days to file

The countdown starts the day listed on your notice.

You get 60 days to appeal, plus 5 for mailing, from the date printed on your denial. Miss it and you usually have to start the whole claim over. The kit counts the days for you and helps you add the deadline to your own calendar so your phone reminds you.

When the notice arrives

Owedify explains your denial and generates your appeal.

A denial letter is hard to read and easy to put off. The kit tells you what it means and what to do before the deadline.

You answer a few questions and it generates your appeal request, filled in with your answers, points you to the right SSA form, and shows you the date it has to be in by. You review it, change anything, sign it, and file it yourself.

What wins the case

Your medical records are the most important part.

Appeals are won on evidence, not on how strongly you argue.

The kit shows you which records matter most: recent treatment notes, test results, and anything that documents how your condition limits a normal workday. It keeps a simple checklist so nothing is missing when you file, and reminds you to keep getting care while you wait.

Not sure a record helps? Ask your doctor's office or call your local Social Security office, it is a normal question.

What it costs to start

The first, most important steps, handled.

A representative is an option, and often paid only if you win. But the appeal and the deadline are yours to handle now, for far less, and the request stays in your name.

If your case goes to a hearing, you can still bring in a representative at any point.

The checklist made me realize my file was missing so many records. I gathered them before the hearing and the judge approved me. I keep recommending!
