Get all 3 of your credit reports free, this week
The only real site, and the 8 errors to look for once you are looking.
Step 1
The only real site
Go to AnnualCreditReport.com. It is the federally authorized source; every other "free report" site is trying to sell you something. All three reports, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, free, every week, forever.
If a site asks for a credit card, you are on the wrong site.
Step 2
Pull all three
Errors often appear on one report and not the others. Ten minutes gets you all three; save or print each one.
Step 3
The 8 errors to look for
- An account you never opened
- A delinquency date that moved (re aging)
- A balance or status that is wrong
- A medical collection under $500, those should not appear at all
- A payment marked late that was on time
- A hard inquiry you never authorized
- The same debt listed twice
- Anything older than about 7 years
About 1 in 5 people had an error on a credit report that was fixed after they disputed it. Source: Federal Trade Commission.
